The special transport operations are being jointly carried out by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), the National Transport Commission (NTC), and the Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority.

Special bus and train services operate again today for people returning to their hometowns for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.Large crowds gathered yesterday at the Pettah Bastian Mawatha private bus stand, the Central Bus Stand, the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre, and the Colombo Fort railway station to travel home.However, passengers arriving at the Pettah Central Bus Stand complained about a lack of buses required to reach their destinations.The National Transport Commission stated that measures are in place today to deploy an adequate number of buses for the public. Meanwhile, Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced that information regarding individuals charging excess bus fares can be reported, and action will be taken against them.The Railway Department noted that special train turns for the festive season continue today on all lines, except for the Upcountry line, which remains damaged due to Cyclone Ditwah.
