Walk For Peace begins its journey from Dambulla
A peace walk led by Ven. Pannakara Thero, members of the Maha Sangha and service canine Aloka set off from Dambulla this morning (22), marking the official start of the "Walk For Peace". The spiritual journey began at dawn following a traditional Sanghika Dana ceremony and is being conducted under the guidance of president Anura Kumara Dissanayake, with the Clean Sri Lanka programme providing logistical support. Preparations for the walk began yesterday evening in Anuradhapura, where Ven. Pannyakara Thero and his delegation from the United States took part in religious observances. At a ceremony held at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the Chief Prelate of the Atamasthana, Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, presented a sapling of the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bo tree to the visiting delegation, who then continued their observances at the Ruwanweli Maha Seya. The procession is expected to reach Aluvihare in Matale by this evening, before continuing to the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy the following day. The walk will then pass through Beligammana Rajamaha Viharaya in Kegalle, Tholangamuwa Central College on April 25, and Yakkala Chandrajothi College on April 26, before arriving at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya on April 27. The walk will conclude on April 28, when the group departs Kelaniya and arrives at Independence Square at 4:00 PM. President Dissanayake will officially hand over the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi sapling to the delegation in a diplomatic ceremony. The procession will then move from Independence Square and conclude at the Gangaramaya Temple. Participants covered a significant distance of over 42 kilometers, starting from the Rangiri Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya.The march is set to resume this morning from the Matale Aluvihare. The day’s proceedings will begin following religious observances conducted by the Maha Sangha, including Vietnamese Venerable Pannakara Thero.The destination for today is the Beligammana Rajamaha Viharaya in Kegalle.The full coordination of the Walk For Peace in the Island of Peace which is being held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka is being carried out by the Maharaja Media Network.
