WhatsApp is working on a centralized interface showing which contacts ...

The latest WhatsApp beta for iPhone includes references to a new contacts hub that will make it easier to see who is online and who was active recently. Here are the details. WhatsApp is making online status easier to check As spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new contacts hub that will display who is, or recently was, online. On WhatsApp, users can choose whether other contacts can see their online activity. Accordingly, WhatsApp only lets users see someone else’s online status if they also make their own online status visible. Yet, for users who do keep online status enabled, checking whether one or more contacts are online still requires opening each conversation individually and looking at the top of the chat, where WhatsApp shows whether that contact is online or when they were last active. However, according to WABetaInfo, “WhatsApp is working on a feature that lets users see which of their contacts are currently online.” The feature is a new contacts hub that will show users’ favorite contacts at the top, followed by contacts who are currently online, and then contacts who were recently active. The site notes that while the feature isn’t currently available even to beta testers, they were able to activate it, as seen below: WABetaInfo says that the new Contacts section will be accessed from the Settings screen, and will follow the same privacy rules as the current online status indicator: users will only see other people’s online activity if they also allow their own online status to be visible. As is the case with features under development, and particularly considering WhatsApp’s famously slow rollout schedule, there is no clear timeline as to when it will be officially released. WhatsApp May Soon Let Users See Online Contacts Without Opening Chats | Tech News - News9live

WhatsApp is developing a new Contacts hub that will let users quickly see which contacts are currently online without opening individual chats. The feature, spotted in Android and iOS beta versions, will also show recently active users, favourite contacts, and include search and sorting options. WhatsApp says privacy settings will still control who can see online and last seen activity in the upcoming update. New Delhi: WhatsApp is developing a new feature that could make it much easier for users to check which of their contacts are currently online. The new update will feature a dedicated Contacts hub, which will display active and recently-available users without having to launch individual chats. The feature is still being worked on for Android and iOS beta versions. The development was initially observed in the beta version of WhatsApp for the Android version 2.26.13.3 update and is now being seen in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.20.10.70 through Apple’s TestFlight program. The feature is designed to make communications easier by enabling users to easily find out which friends or family members are available on the same platform to communicate in real time, reports WABetaInfo. WhatsApp plans new contacts hub for faster access At present, WhatsApp only shows a contact’s online status after users open a chat window. When the individual is offline, the app shows their “last seen” activity, depending on their privacy setting. Users sometimes end up spending a lot of time looking for an active user from several chats. In order to address this, WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new dedicated Contacts section in the app. The new hub should be seen under the area of profile photos in settings. It will show you the contacts you like the most at the top for immediate use and then show you a list of the last few players who were online. Online contacts will be marked with green dot Contacts that are online will be listed at the top of the list as indicated by a green status bubble in the corner of their profile picture. WhatApp will display the recently active contacts on the list below, from top to bottom. This feature will enable users to easily see who is available without having to open conversations over and over again. It may make it easier to hold informal conversations and make quick communication easier. Search, sorting and contact management features coming The new Contacts hub will also feature a search bar to easily locate contacts. Users c...

How to find a contact on WhatsApp? 2026

Save their phone number with country code, open WhatsApp > Chats > New chat, search their name. If they don't appear, the number isn't registered on WhatsApp or your contacts haven't synced. Teams can centralize contact search with folk.
