The Central Bank’s request comes after claims that its failure to mop up the rupee to keep the interest rates low had increased the demand for imports and resulted in the recent sharp depreciation of the rupee currency. “Money printing, money supply, and the determination of exchange rates are matters that must be analyzed with specialized technical knowledge,” it said in a social media post. “Do not be misled by the misleading public statements being made these days by parties who do not possess such technical knowledge.” The Central Bank’s statement also comes ahead of a monetary policy meeting, the third of six in 2026 amid speculations that it is under pressure to tighten the policy to reduce pressure on the currency amid rising inflation, mainly cost push after fuel price hike.
