According to the VNA special correspondent, on the afternoon of May 8th, local time, General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation attended the Vietnam-Sri Lanka Trade, Investment and Tourism Cooperation Forum, organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in coordination with the Sri Lanka National Export Promotion Council. Also attending were Ms. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka; leaders of ministries and departments; and numerous businesses from both countries. Speaking at the Forum, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya stated that the two countries have a long-standing friendship based on mutual respect, shared values, and strong ties between their peoples. Over the years, this relationship has steadily deepened across many areas, including trade and investment, education , culture, and tourism. Both sides not only celebrate this solid foundation of cooperation but also promote it towards a more dynamic, visionary partnership and deeper economic integration, opening a new chapter in relations between the two countries. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that this Forum is the realization of that shared ambition, as Vietnam and Sri Lanka are determined to work towards achieving a bilateral trade turnover of US$1 billion by 2030, with a focus on diversifying product portfolios under the leadership of the two countries. Expressing her admiration for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya expressed her desire to learn from Vietnam's development experience and further deepen trade facilitation, connectivity, and cooperation. Sri Lankan businesses have established around 30 investment projects in Vietnam, reflecting their confidence in Vietnam's dynamic, stable, and friendly business environment. Marking a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Vietnam , the Sri Lanka– Vietnam Trade, Investment and Tourism Cooperation Forum was successfully held today (08) at the Hilton Colombo. The Forum, jointly organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, was held in parallel with the State Visit of President Tô Lâm of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam . The event was attended by President Tô Lâm and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said. The Forum underscored the importance of the longstanding bilateral relationship between the two countries and reflected the shared commitment to expanding economic cooperation. The primary objective of the Forum was to further strengthen bilateral economic ties by focusing on key priorities including the expansion of trade, promotion of investment and enhancement of tourism cooperation, the statement said. The event also provided an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration, strengthen business-to-business engagement and facilitate greater market access by bringing together senior government officials, entrepreneurs and industry leaders from both countries on a common platform. During the Forum, direct air connectivity between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City was officially launched. The new services, operated by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air, are expected to further strengthen relations between the two nations and their people. Six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering key areas of cooperation were also signed during the Forum. In addition, a notable development was the establishment of the Sri Lanka–Vietnam Business Council under the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, it added.
