Ratnapura Police arrested a suspect and recovered a cache of gemstones and gold jewellery valued at over 700 million rupees, stolen from the house of a gem businessman in Hidellana, Ratnapura. The perpetrator entered the residence on the night of 11 May, using sharp weapons to intimidate the occupants.A complaint lodged with the police indicated that an individual entered the home and threatened the businessman’s mother and sister. The intruder made off with gemstones worth 70 million rupees, gold jewellery valued at 2 million rupees, and 195,000 rupees in cash. Ratnapura Police launched an investigation and identified the suspect after reviewing CCTV footage from the area.Officers uncovered information regarding the stolen property during interrogation following the suspect’s arrest. Based on these details, the stolen gemstones were discovered hidden in the Embilipitiya area, while the gold jewellery remained in the suspect's possession. Police also recovered 52,000 rupees from the stolen cash. The suspect faces production before the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court today. The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ratnapura Police conducts further inquiries into the incident.

Taking PMJ jewellery showroom theft as a challenge, police intensified the search operation to nab the accused.
