Google Maps' AI Feature 'Ask Maps' debuts in India

Breaking News Google has rolled out Ask Maps on its official social media channels, calling it one of the biggest upgrades to the platform in more than a decade. According to the company, the feature is "fundamentally changing what a map can do" by answering complex, real-world questions that were earlier difficult to solve through basic searches. Ask Maps taps into Google Maps' vast database of over 300 million locations and insights from more than 500 million contributors globally, combining reviews, photos, and traffic data. So Instead of typing queries like "beauty salons near me," users can now ask detailed questions through text or voice. The responses appear with a customised map showing relevant places, routes, estimated travel times, and quick options to start navigation, save locations, or share plans with others. The tool also supports follow-up questions, allowing users to refine their plans without starting a new search. To use Ask Maps, users need to update Google Maps on their mobile device and sign in to their Google account. A new Ask Maps button appears under the search bar. Tapping it opens a chat-style interface where questions can be typed or spoken. Once the query is submitted, the AI processes live data such as traffic conditions, local reviews, and saved preferences to generate tailored suggestions. Google has confirmed that conversation history can be viewed and deleted, giving users control over how the feature is used.
