Weather Channel Will Stay on YouTube TV With Carriage Renewal

YouTube TV and Byron Allen‘s Allen Media Group have renewed their carriage deal, ensuring that The Weather Channel and other AMG networks will stay on YouTube’s multichannel service. Separately, Allen Media Group has closed a deal to sell a number of its local over-the-air stations to Gray Television, after announcing the transaction in late March. The long-term agreement with YouTube TV includes Comedy.TV, Justice Central and Recipe.TV as well as The Weather Channel. Allen’s free streaming service Local Now will also continue to be available to YouTube TV subscribers. “We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Google by continuing to provide our weather, news, comedy, court, and lifestyle networks to YouTube TV’s millions of subscribers,” said Allen, founder, chairman and CEO of Allen Media Group. Added Emily Washkowitz, YouTube’s head of TV and film partnerships, “We are pleased to continue our relationship with Allen Media Group. Our goal is to provide a consistent and diverse lineup for our subscribers, and this renewed agreement helps us maintain that commitment.” Allen Media Group’s deal with Gray Television is valued at $171 million. Allen is selling stations in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri to Gray, mostly in small to mid-sized markets. Gray gains entry to three new markets as part of the deal that began in March and will have overlap in seven others. Allen is also set to take over CBS’ late night programming after The Late Show With Stephen Colbert ends later this month. In a time buy deal, his Comics Unleashed panel show will fill the 11:35 p.m. spot on CBS starting May 22, with a comedy game show called Funny You Should Ask airing at 12:35 a.m. THR Newsletters Sign up for THR news straight to your inbox every day Subscribe Sign Up
