Angul: A 50-year-old woman was killed after being struck by lightning in Kanjara village under Jarapada police station limits in Angul district. The deceased has been identified as Basanti Mahar, wife of Subal Mahar. According to reports, the incident occurred late last night during a severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. Basanti and her husband Subal were sleeping in one room, while their children were sleeping in another room. Suddenly, lightning struck their house, damaging the thatched roof. Basanti was directly hit by the lightning and sustained critical injuries. Family members immediately rushed her to the District Headquarters Hospital in Angul in a serious condition. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival. Upon being informed, police reached the spot and have started further investigation into the incident.
