SC orders re-issuance of notice to ex-President Gotabaya Rajapaksa
The Supreme Court today directed the petitioning party to take steps to reissue notice to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who has been named as a respondent in a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition. The petition had been filed seeking an order to recover compensation funds allegedly paid unlawfully to former ministers and Members of Parliament whose houses were set on fire or damaged during the island-wide violence that erupted following the attack on the “Aragalaya” protest site on May 9, 2022. The Supreme Court issued this order during the hearing of the Fundamental Rights petition, which was filed seeking a declaration that the payment of such compensation was unlawful, said Ada Derana reporter.

News Former MP and leader of the Pivuthuru Hela Urumaya Udaya Gammanpila said today that there is an attempt to arrest former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former State Intelligence Services (SIS) Director Major General Suresh Sallay in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks. He said the Government was in the process of bringing back to Sri Lanka Azad Maulana alias Mohammed Mahilar Mohammed Hansir, the man extensively featured in the Channel 9 documentary on the attacks,to frame the ex-president and the ex-SIS director. Azan Moulana is reportedly in Switzerland pending his asylum request. “There is a new drama being enacted by the Government now to blame the attacks on the intelligence services by taking forward the narrative of the Channel 9 documentary.This involves arresting the former president and Major General Suresh Sallay,” Mr Gammanpila said at a press briefing. He said that Azad Moulana has had a case pending before the Kalmunai Magistrate Court in connection with a case filed by his second wife, who he had allegedly married under a false name.
