Sri Lanka Police have revealed further details regarding the 21 suspects deported from Dubai and brought back to the island as part of an ongoing crackdown on organised crime. Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Colombo Division, Nishantha de Zoysa, stated that five of the deported individuals have been identified as organised criminals, while two of them were wanted under Interpol Red Notices. The suspects have been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division for further investigations, he said. DIG de Zoysa noted that the deportations were carried out through coordinated multi-agency investigations and diplomatic efforts involving local and foreign authorities. He added that between 68 and 70 suspects have so far been repatriated to Sri Lanka through similar operations. According to Police, authorities have also secured 226 additional Red Notices against suspects abroad, including 90 individuals identified as organised criminals. The wanted suspects are believed to be residing in countries including Dubai, India, Indonesia, Russia and Thailand, and efforts are underway to bring them back to Sri Lanka, he said. Police uncover more details on 21 Sri Lankan suspects deported from Dubai
Sri Lanka Police have uncovered further details regarding the 21 suspects who were brought back to the island last morning (22) following their deportation from Dubai. Among the deported individuals are ‘Mahawatte Chamara’ and ‘Wanathe Kudu Duminda’, who are identified as notorious drug traffickers against whom Red Notices had been obtained by the police. It is reported that the duo had been arrested during a party held in Dubai. According to police, ‘Kudu Duminda’ is identified as the alleged mastermind behind the shooting incident in Borella on August 8, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others. The suspect has been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) for further investigations. Police further stated that five close associates of ‘Kudu Duminda’ were also among the group deported to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the drug trafficker known as ‘Mahawatte Chamara’ has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further interrogation. Apart from these individuals, the majority of the remaining suspects were arrested in Dubai for allegedly recording and circulating on social media footage of the missile and drone attacks carried out by Iran in the UAE. Police further stated that during their detention, authorities in Dubai had confiscated their belongings, including cash and gold jewellery, before deporting them to Sri Lanka. Two women were reportedly also among the deported individuals, and they were handed over last afternoon (23) to the respective police stations where cases have been filed against them, for further investigations.

COLOMBO (News 1st): Police said that two of the 21 suspects deported to Sri Lanka from Dubai were individuals for whom Interpol Red Notices had been issued.The suspects linked to organised criminal activities was arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake yesterday. Among those taken into custody are six individuals who had previously been accused of various offences. The suspects are alleged to have been involved in crimes including drug trafficking, shootings and murders, fraud, criminal breach of trust and assault.Police stated that the group had initially arrived in Sri Lanka on a flight that was diverted to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport due to adverse weather conditionsThe arrests were made after the same flight later proceeded to Katunayake, where authorities detained the suspects upon arrival.Investigations into the suspects and their alleged criminal links are currently underway, police added.Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, said the suspects will be handed over to the Central Crimes Division and the Colombo Crime Division for further investigations.
