May 7, 2026 at 11:07 AM Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) athletes who won medals at the 6th Asian Beach Games in China were honoured with promotions and cash awards on Wednesday (06). According to the SLAF, the athletes were honoured at a ceremony held at Air Force Headquarters under the patronage of Air Force Commander Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe. The athletes, who brought international recognition to Sri Lanka through victories in wrestling, kabaddi, and long-jump, were promoted from the ranks of Airman and Leading Airman to Corporal. In addition to promotions, special cash prizes were awarded. Air Force coaches who guided the athletes to success were also recognized and presented with cash awards. The medal winners are as follows: Wrestling – Corporal Nipuni Wasana Dharmadasa – Gold Medal Kabaddi (Women) – Corporal Hansika Bandara – Silver Medal Kabaddi (Women) – Corporal Shanika Bandara – Silver Medal Kabaddi (Men) – Corporal Chaminda Samarakoon – Bronze Medal Long Jump (Women) – Corporal Shashikala Lankathilaka – Bronze Medal (Newswire) 2026-05-07

SLAF HONOURS MEDAL-WINNING ATHLETES OF THE 6TH ASIAN BEACH GAMES The SLAF recognized its outstanding athletes who brought international acclaim to the nation by securing medals at the Asian Beach Games 2026 in China. A special felicitation ceremony was held today (06 May 2026) at Air Force Headquarters under the patronage of the Commander of the Air Force and President Air Force Sports Council, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe.In recognition of their exceptional achievements in wrestling, kabaddi and long jump, the athletes were promoted to the rank of Corporal. They also received special cash awards in appreciation of their dedication and success. The ceremony further acknowledged the vital role played by the coaches, whose guidance significantly contributed to these accomplishments, with the Commander presenting them with special cash rewards as well.Among the medalists, Corporal Dharmadasa HPNW secured a gold medal in wrestling. In the women’s kabaddi team, Corporals Bandara DGHK and Bandara HRSS each won silver medals, while Corporal Samarakoon SMCR earned a bronze medal as part of the men’s kabaddi team. In addition, Corporal Lankathilaka GIS achieved a bronze medal in the women’s long jump.
