Reckless Bus Driver taught a lesson after Viral Video
A private bus travelling from Kalpitiya to Colombo has come under police investigation after a video showing the vehicle dangerously overtaking another bus in the Madampe area circulated on social media. According to Police, officers from the Madampe Police Station stopped the bus on the same day after observing the traffic violations shown in the video. The driver was severely warned, and his driving licence was taken into police custody while a temporary licence was issued. Police said the bus was released at the time considering the large number of passengers onboard, and the driver was instructed to appear before the Madampe Police Station today (13). The driver appeared before Police this morning and was referred to the Chilaw Hospital for drug tests. Legal action is also being initiated against him over reckless and illegal driving. Police further stated that the bus, currently in police custody, will be presented to the Puttalam Motor Traffic Inspector. The circulating video also shows three people, including a woman and a child travelling on a motorcycle, being involved in an accident while a car attempted to avoid colliding with the speeding bus. The injured individuals reportedly left the scene with minor injuries, and no complaint has been lodged with the Madampe Police regarding the incident so far. (Newswire) 2026-05-13
