Best Things to Get at Aldi, From Dietitian and Personal Trainer Couple ...

My husband and I, a personal trainer and a dietitian, respectively, do most of our grocery shopping at Aldi. Jasmine Westbrooks 2026-04-13T17:17:20.177Z I'm a registered dietitian married to a personal trainer, and we go to Aldi for grocery staples. The budget chain is a great place to find frozen berry mixes, salad kits, and canned beans. Some of our go-to protein sources are Friendly Farms Greek yogurt and Earth Grown plant-based meat. When I think of high-quality food at affordable prices, Aldi instantly comes to mind.I first got hooked on the chain about a decade ago, when I was on the hunt for a grocery store that sold a variety of nutritious products that also tasted good. After all, I'm a dietitian, and my partner has similar goals since he's a personal trainer.Aldi took the crown for us, and we've now been shopping there for over a decade. We're always looking for nutritionally dense foods that support our workout regimen and recovery. And as busy business owners, we're also looking for quick, healthy meals. Here are some of our favorite things to buy at Aldi. The Little Salad Bar kits are packed with flavor. The Little Salad Bar sunflower salad kit comes with bacon bits. Jasmine Westbrooks I think salads are best when there are themes to the flavor profiles — that's what encourages us to go back for more. I like using Aldi's kits to make these with minimal chopping and prep. Its Little Salad Bar kits come with specialized dressings and toppings that are great on their own with the included base (such as chopped romaine and cabbage) or added to another leafy green to bulk them up.Each variety has a good amount of fiber and a little protein — either from nuts, seeds, or bacon pieces. We'll often add a cooked protein, such as chicken, to bulk these up even more. We're not vegan, but we love Aldi's plant-based meat alternatives. I love the flavors in the Earth Grown Southwest burrito bowl. Jasmine Westbrooks Even though we don't eat vegan, we often substitute animal protein for plant-based options to support our heart health and switch up our meals. The Earth Grown Vegan plant-based burrito bowls are convenient for making tacos, burritos, pasta, and chili. Our favorite is the Southwest pack with chipotle peppers, which contains 18 grams of protein. The chain has a nice selection of mixed nuts. I like the simple blend from Southern Grove that has sea salt. Jasmine Westbrooks My husband is always looking for the most convenient source of pro...

Here are our favorite grocery picks at Aldi, Wegmans - AOL

If we had unlimited time for grocery shopping, we'd do nothing else. Every store has its strengths and selections. A lot of us just throw our preferences, price points and convenience issues into a pot and pick out one store that makes things easiest, and stick with it. If time were no object, we could get the Tzatziki Dip at Aldi, the chips at Wegmans, the staples at Walmart, the gluten-free stuff at Erie Food Co-op, etc. We're here to make this one-store-fits-all idea really difficult to stick to, because we have favorite picks at each major grocer in town. We're sharing those with you in case you need a reason to make a change, or make an extra stop, or are looking for a new flavor to savor. We couldn't fit them all into one story, so we started with Aldi and Wegmans. Subsequent stories will offer picks at Tops, Giant Eagle, Erie Food Co-op and maybe even some of the neighborhood shops ― wherever we find the best grocery picks. It'll be an ongoing project or as we say in the biz, an "occasional series."If you want to play along, feel free to share your favorite grocery picks, including details for how you use them, and at what Erie-area store you found them, and we'll try to include them in future lists.
