Politics Is Not Cinema, Kachchatheevu Is Sri Lankan : Namal To ...

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has addressed a message to Indian political figure Vijay, congratulating him on his recent political success while reaffirming Sri Lanka’s position on Kachchatheevu.Namal Rajapaksa said he congratulated Vijay through a post on X, noting that Vijay is new to politics, having entered the political arena from cinema, and that he managed to secure victory within a very short period of time. He congratulated him on this achievement but cautioned that acting and politics are very different.“In politics, one must face reality. Acting is easy,” Namal Rajapaksa said, adding that Sri Lanka too has witnessed how certain actors entered politics and later came to realise these differences. He said he wished for Vijay to receive the strength to fulfil the promises he made.Referring to Kachchatheevu, Namal Rajapaksa invited Vijay to obtain a visa and visit Sri Lanka to attend the Kachchatheevu festival scheduled to be held in February or March next year. He said Vijay could come to Sri Lanka as a tourist and participate in the Kachchatheevu feast.Namal Rajapaksa further stated that Sri Lanka is not governed by the central government of India, noting that Tamil Nadu is a state government and that a state government cannot make decisions regarding Sri Lanka. He said Vijay could take decisions for his own state and should focus on fulfilling the promises made to the people of that state.Reiterating Sri Lanka’s stance, Namal Rajapaksa said Kachchatheevu belongs to Sri Lanka. He added that Vijay may visit Sri Lanka as a tourist, participate in the festival next year, and obtain blessings.
