The suspects were brought to Türkiye following the cross-border operation, the sources said. Nine of them were arrested after procedures carried out jointly by MİT and the police anti-terror department, while the detention period of one suspect was extended. Security sources said the suspects were Turkish nationals who had crossed from Türkiye into Syria to join ISIL and had operated within the group. One of those captured was linked to the perpetrators of the 2015 Ankara train station attack, according to the same sources. The attack, carried out by ISIL, killed more than 100 people and wounded hundreds. MİT contacted Syrian intelligence after determining that the suspects were in Syria. Their locations were identified and their movements were monitored before the operation. The suspects were later taken to Türkiye for questioning. In their statements to police, the suspects gave information on instructions they received from ISIL, weapons and ideological training within the group, and propaganda activities carried out on behalf of the organization, according to security sources. The operation targeted figures allegedly active in ISIL’s Türkiye-linked structures, including members involved in logistics, media, intelligence and administrative activities, the sources said.

Nine of the 10 were returned to Turkiye, said the Anadolu news agency and state TV channel TRT. One is suspected of having ties to the perpetrators of an attack in Ankara’s central railway station in late 2015, in which more than 100 people died. Two others are accused of planning or participating in attacks on Turkish soldiers deployed in northern Syria. Turkish state media said the 10 were thought to have joined Daesh between 2014 and 2017. They did not say exactly when or where the suspects were arrested.
