iRobot announces eight smaller and better Roomba bots after bankruptcy
It’s only a few months since iRobot filed for bankruptcy, but it has now re-emerged under new ownership and announced eight new Roomba models. The company which invented robot vacuum cleaners 23 years ago has been taken over by its primary manufacturer in China … iRobot was the US company which invented a product category which is now ubiquitous – robot vacuum cleaners. Sadly, the business struggled to keep pace with an ever-growing range of competitors offering more affordable products, and it went into voluntary bankruptcy at the end of last year. The company said at the time that the business would be taken over by its primary manufacturer in China, Shenzhen PICEA Robotics. That indeed happened, and the reborn business has just announced eight new models. iRobot’s new owners say that these combine improved performance with smaller sizes. US pricing hasn’t yet been confirmed, but The Verge obtained UK prices which suggest roughly the same starting point for the new base model and potentially a slightly higher price for the flagship one. Key changes include higher suction power, a smaller overall size to better navigate your home, more models with roller mops, and the introduction of “hot spot mopping” […] The company says its new lineup is up to 25 percent smaller for “many” models […] The line starts at £229 (about $309) for the base model 115 and goes up to £799 ($1,080) for the flagship 775. The prior lineup started at £249 and went up to £999 — costing $299 to $999 in the US. The flagship Max 775 combo almost doubles the 705’s 16,000 Pa suction power to 30,000 Pa. It also adds pressurized hot spray pretreatment as well as the new hotspot mopping feature. As before, it uses a combination of LiDAR and AI-powered camera systems, and the dock empties the robot’s bin, washes the mop with hot water, and then dries it with hot air. The entry-level Roomba 115 Combo vacuum and mop seems to offer excellent value given a doubling of suction power to 15,000 PA and an optional auto empty dock available for an extra £70 ($95). After an acquisition by Picea, iRobot just announced an entirely new line-up of Roombas ready to roll.Joining the portfolio, there's not one, not two, not... You get it. There are eight new Roombas with a swathe of new technology onboard. Though what I'm most intrigued to hear is that several models are measuring up to 25% smaller in overall volume than previous generations.That's not the only exciting feature though, as we delve amongst the new robots to see what's on offer. For now, the models will be rolling out across the U.K. from £229 to £799, as well as in North America from mid-2026. With up to 15,000 Pa of suction for everyday crumbs and mess, it's a compact design but it's still got a lot of power behind it.For bigger homes with busier lives, iRobot is also launching the Roomba Plus with five different Combo Robots that can vacuum and mop at the same time. With 20,000-30,000 Pa of suction, it'll sweep up those crumbs and wipe up any spills it comes across. But, it's the 615 or 675 that'll put in an extra work.Put it this way, if you were at a car wash, it's like paying for a tiered clean with the high-end wax option. With these two robots, you get a pressurised hot-spray pre-treatment and heated mopping to really maximize an efficient clean.
