House collapse kills 3 Afghan women, injures 2 children

KABUL, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Three women have been confirmed dead and two children have sustained injuries as their house collapsed in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province on Monday, provincial government spokesman Mustaghfar Gurbaz said. The deadly incident took place in the provincial capital Khost city in the afternoon, the official said, adding that the injured children had been shifted to a nearby hospital. This is the third such incident over the past two days. Earlier, similar incidents claimed the lives of six children and injured seven others in eastern Nangarhar province, and three others, including a mother and her two children, were killed in Wardak province since Sunday morning. The deadly incidents have occurred amid monsoon rains and flooding in parts of Afghanistan, including the capital city Kabul. The country's meteorological department has forecast more rain over the next 24 hours in parts of the country. ■
