News A suspect has been arrested on charges of allegedly defrauding over Rs.50 million from about 150 persons after promising to provide overseas jobs. The Colombo Central Crime Investigation Division had commenced a probe into the matter following complaints received by the Slave Island Police. Officers from the Division were able to track down and arrest a suspect who was allegedly involved in the scam from Kirulapona yesterday (24). He has been handed over to the Slave Island Police. U. Wootler stated that the arrest was made based on information received regarding the presence of firearms. Acting on that information, officers conducted a search of Kathriarachchi’s residence.During the search, police recovered two T56 magazines, 221 rounds of T56 ammunition, and an additional stock of ammunition, ASP Wootler said.Following his arrest, Chandana Katriarachchi is due to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court.
