New ride-hailing facility in Sri Lanka after PickMe and Uber

News A new ride-hailing company has entered the Sri Lankan industry, increasing the number to three from two earlier – PickMe an Uber. The new facility is being promoted by David Pieris Group and Helakuru partner to introduce HelaGo, a new era in fair ride-hailing. A statement on Sunday by the David Pieris Group, said that HelaGo, launched under the Helakuru Superapp ecosystem by Bhasha Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, is designed as a “fair and open” ride-hailing platform that empowers both drivers and passengers. It introduces a fresh economic model to the industry, one that moves away from top-down, algorithmically controlled pricing and instead fosters a transparent, demand-and-supply–driven environment. In HelaGo, fares naturally reflect real market conditions at a micro level, giving drivers the opportunity to earn fairly within a reasonable range while allowing passengers to make informed choices that suit their needs. By restoring balance, transparency and mutual consent to the core of the ride-hailing experience, HelaGo aims to create a more sustainable and equitable mobility ecosystem for Sri Lanka, the statement said. The platform supports multiple payment methods including cash, card and HelaPay—the integrated digital wallet within the Helakuru ecosystem—ensuring simple and secure transactions. With millions of existing Helakuru users, HelaGo is strongly positioned for rapid nationwide adoption, bridging affordability, accessibility and fairness to create a more inclusive mobility experience. -Ends - Comments Still No Comments Posted.

Dewasiri Seafood to expand islandwide, to invest in Lanka's first short ...

Dewasiri Seafood Restaurant in Hikkaduwa is planning to open several outlets all over Sri Lanka to cater to the mid-market.“We already have outlets in Hikkaduwa, Nuwara Eliya and Pasikudah,” said Chairman Dixson Buddha Koralage. “Since the age of 6 I was involved in the hospitality sector as my father operated a mini hotel and restaurant in his native town Hikkaduwa in 1975.”Sensing the huge potential in the growing tourism market I then invested Rs. 25 million to build a Dewasiri Seafood Restaurant and offer accommodation in Hikkaduwa on the beach frontage. While managing this he also moved to Italy and was working in the cleaning and hospitality business. “During the local tourism season, I used to come back to Sri Lanka to manage this restaurant which was fast gaining in popularity.”“While I was in Nuwara Eliya to purchase vegetables I dined at one of the leading restaurants and experienced that the seafood they served was of very low quality. This is the day I decided that I should provide quality and fresh seafood to the area which led to the opening of Grand Dewasiri Seafood Restaurant in Nuwara Eliya in 2018 on a lease property investing around Rs. 40 million.”“Due to our superior service and friendly hospitality, I also attracted many repeat foreign and local customers and I later added a few rooms to the venue as well.”“I then diversified into the food and vegetable segment and invested in my own plantation in Nuwara Eliya and also opened a vegetable sales outlet near Hikkaduwa.”“With many repeat customers especially from Europe who are also long stay guests I decided to relocate my Hikkaduwa property to a more commercial area in Hikkaduwa beach frontage and rebuilt a two storied property, increasing my room inventory to five with modern amenities, built beach cabanas and expanded the restaurant area to accommodate around 30 guests. After doing several surveys I found that there was a vacuum for quality seafood restaurants for the mid-market in Pasikudah and opened Dewasiri Seafood Restaurant last year.“Today with my three hospitality ventures and agro facilities I am providing employment for nearly 60 people and now I want to extend my footprint to Jaffna, Kandy and many other areas.”I also observed that many people are stranded at the Nanu Oya railway station due to lack of accommodation and transport facilities at dawn due to train arrival and departure schedules.“To provide them a few hours of rest and a quality early meal I want to convert my p...
