Hamas condemns Rafah crossing closure, urges urgent international ...
Hamas has condemned the Israeli army’s closure of the Rafah crossing and the prevention of patients and wounded people from travelling abroad for treatment, describing it as a “new crime against humanity”. In a statement received by Quds Press on Monday evening, the group said the move was carried out under “flimsy pretexts” and reflected what it called a “fascist approach” targeting the Palestinian people, as part of a systematic policy that violates international humanitarian laws and conventions, in full view of the world. Hamas said the measure, along with what it described as daily violations of the ceasefire agreement, showed the desire of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to evade the deal. It held mediators responsible for ensuring Israel complies with the agreed terms. The group called on the international community, the United Nations and all relevant parties to take urgent action to pressure the Israeli government to stop its violations and ongoing aggression, and to ensure the reopening of crossings, particularly Rafah, to allow patients and the wounded access to treatment and the right to life. Emotional reunions at Rafah as Palestinians cross Gaza-Egypt border
Last updated: 03/02 - 11:49 At Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, families waited anxiously as the first arrivals came through Rafah, reuniting with relatives who had travelled months earlier for medical treatment. Egyptian officials said around 150 people were expected to leave Gaza and about 50 to enter on the first day, with strict limits in place. Ambulances transported sick and injured patients into Egypt, where medical screening was carried out before onward transfer to hospitals. Rafah is the only crossing out of Gaza that does not lead into Israel, making it a lifeline for medical evacuations and family reunions. The partial reopening followed days of heavy strikes and months of lobbying by humanitarian groups. Israel had tied the decision to the return of the remains of Ran Gvili, the last Israeli hostage held in Gaza. His body was recovered and buried last week. More about
