That's 32 per cent of our overall Estimated Resident Population of 27.6 million.The proportion of overseas-born people in Australia is approaching the highest we have on record, which was 32.4 per cent in 1891.India, England, China, New Zealand and the Philippines are the top five most common countries of birth for those born overseas.India narrowly overtook England in 2025 to become the top overseas country of birth for the first time.
