Android 17 leak shows custom Material You colors, blur, more
Google’s Material You is finally getting an update everyone has been asking for – the ability to pick custom colors, as showcased in a new leak. Mystic Leaks obtained what appears to be an early build of a future Android 17 release, with some screenshots showing additional blur across the UI. We reported on more blur coming to Android earlier this year. But far more exciting is a look at the updated “Wallpaper & style” menu, where Google seemingly has two Material You changes in store for Android 17. The first big thing is a collection of preset variations that affect the intensity of Material You themes. “Neutral” offers gray tones, while “Soft” has subtle colors. “Bright” ups the vibrance considerably, while “Bold” adds more of a mix of colors throughout. Along with that, Google appears to be giving users complete control over what colors are used. A slider allows the user to specifically pick what color they want to use as their accent, with Android showing a preview in real-time. Together, the two tools open the door to much more control for the end user, something many have been requesting for years now. It’s still unclear when all this will arrive. Existing Android 17 builds haven’t shown any of the changes seen here, and with the final release mere weeks away, it seems unlikely to arrive in the first release. But with Android 17 QPR1 already in beta, we could see this in a few more months, and that would also put the release closer to Google’s next batch of Pixel phones. What do you think?
