I spent nearly $1,700 for my family to see Messi play for Inter Miami. It was worth it, but not everything was perfect. Essay by Conz Preti You're currently following this author! Want to unfollow? While vacationing in Miami, I decided to attend an Inter Miami game at their new stadium. The $1 billion brand-new stadium is impressive, and my tickets had me so close to the players. When my coworkers found out I was pregnant, they gifted my unborn son a teeny tiny Lionel Messi jersey. That was his first of many jerseys he has had in his eight years of life. I'm from Argentina, and a huge soccer fan. I'm the kind of person who watches every World Cup match and any other time Argentina plays. I'm also, obviously, a huge Messi fan. I once even became a viral meme when my shadow resembled his face, and 12 years later, people still tag me on social media. While vacationing in South Florida, I took my family to see Messi play for Inter Miami at their brand-new stadium. While it was an expensive outing, our group, ranging in age from 6 to 81, had a blast. We were seated so close to the fieldBecause it was the first time my kids were seeing Messi play live, we decided to splurge on tickets close to the field. We were seated in row 5 and paid $230 per ticket for the seven of us.I'm used to other stadiums in the US, where you end up not being close to the field at all. I was surprised at how close we were to the players this time. We were able to see Inter Miami warm up right in front of our section, and had players wave and interact with us. We were seated near a corner kick and got to see Messi up close. Courtesy of the author Once the game started, Messi took a corner kick right where we were, and my kids were amazed to see their idol so close up.The stadium is great, but accessibility isn'tThe Nu Stadium, which opened in early April, reportedly cost $1 billion to build, and as someone who has attended many soccer matches, I can see why the price tag was so high.We paid $47 for a parking pass despite it being recommended to use the train to get to the stadium. It was the right thing for my family since my kids still use car seats, and the walk from the train station to the stadium is 1.2 miles. The outside area of the stadium is covered in turf, where you can fin...

Facundo Mura's rise from Estudiantes to Messi's teammate | Miami Herald

Inter Miami defender Facundo Mura (4) kicks the ball against New England Revolution in the second half of their MLS match in Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Miami, Fla. Photo by Matias J. Ocner mocner@miamiherald.com Facundo Mura’s journey to Inter Miami began in General Roca, an agricultural town in Argentina’s Río Negro province, globally recognized for its apples and pears. The town’s apples are celebrated every February at the Fiesta Nacional de la Manzana (National Festival of the Apple). It was there that Mura fell in love with soccer; far, far away from the pressure and spotlight the 27-year-old right back deals with now as Lionel Messi’s teammate. When he was 13, he and his younger brother, Joaquin, had an opportunity to join the youth ranks of Estudiantes de La Plata, one of the most historic and decorated clubs in Argentina. Mura’s parents, Raul Mura and Monica Hernandez, who were both physicians, packed up the family and moved 680 miles north to La Plata, the capital city of the Buenos Aires province.Mura says he is forever indebted to his parents for that sacrifice and credits them for where he is today.“Both of my parents were doctors, with successful careers in General Roca, and the day me and my brother had the possibility to go to Estudiantes, they made the decision to relocate and reinvent their careers in La Plata,” Mura said on Wednesday after training, ahead of Saturday’s home game against Orlando City (7:15 p.m. FS1, Apple TV).“They were nearing 50 years old, an age when many people would stay where they are established. It was a sacrifice for them to allow us to chase our dreams.”He said the foundation his parents set for him in General Roca prepared him for what was ahead, on and off the field.“I am fortunate to have had a wonderful childhood, surrounded by my loved ones, and my parents gave me everything I needed to grow up in the best way possible, education and values, and their actions taught me that to reach your dreams you must work very hard,” Mura said.“They were, and remain, my role models as I enjoy this stage of my career. I will never forget my beginnings, when I speak to my old friends, go visit my neighborhood and school and eat a delicious apple.”In mid-2017, Mura began training with Estudiantes’ first team and was called up to the U20 national team. While with the U20 team, he got his first chance to share the field with Messi, former Inter Miami star Gonzalo Higuain and former Miami c...
